Artist Statement
I attempt to capture the beauty and design perfection found in nature and to blend the line between myth and reality. My designs relay a world of mythical creatures and metaphorical images. I use handmade stencils as the starting point of all my designs. Stencils have a long history of public expression throughout the world and have been successful in communicating powerful messages to the people. Important ideas and information can be communicated easily when simplified down to a black and white image. These Images and print are much stronger than words could ever be. Within the past year I have begun to reflect on some of the controversial issues we face daily in Hawaii, as women, and globally through print art. It is especially fulfilling to collaborate with other artists and Hawai'i's youth through workshops and urban art. |
